We can't all be lion tamers

He said he’d hurt himself against a wall or had fallen down.
But there was probably some other reason
for the wounded, the bandaged shoulder.
Because of a rather abrupt gesture,
as he reached for a shelf to bring down
some photographs he wanted to look at,
the bandage came undone and a little blood ran.
I did it up again, taking my time
over the binding; he wasn’t in pain
and I liked looking at the blood.
It was a thing of my love, that blood.
When we left, I found, in front of his chair,
a bloody rag, part of the dressing,
a rag to be thrown straight into the garbage;
and I put it to my lips
and kept it there a long while—
the blood of love against my lips.

~it’s a gay period piece with HUGH GRANT.

~it’s a gay period piece with HUGH GRANT and RUPERT GRAVES.

~it teaches about love; that even though Maurice’s first experience with love ends sourly, he found someone even better who loved him and wanted to be with him despite all the differences and risks.

~it has a GOOD ending!!

~it reminds you of Call Me By Your Name but with a good ending.

~not only does Maurice have one adorable relationship (well, before everything went to shit), but he has TWO.

~ALEC SCUDDER.

~”i love you”s (which i find is rare in the gay movies i’ve seen)

~the main character is flawed just like a regular human being but you still root for him.

~the opening scene.

~did I mention Alec Scudder?

~a romance story just like in the movies or in books or fanfiction where the couple are from two different social classes but still give up everything to be together

~this movie came out in 1987 but is one of my all time favorite gay movies (probably second place beside Love, Simon)

~I didn’t even know this movie existed but once I did I was obsessed with watching it (was not disappointed)

~has a 95% on Rotten Tomatoes

~really good acting

~lots and lots of gay.

~when Alec and Maurice first get together + the morning after

~when Alec defends Maurice in front of Wilcox: “Mr. Hall is a gentleman!”

~Alec’s longing stares

~Alec’s letter to Maurice

“I, since cricket match, do long to place both arms around you and share with you. The above now sounds sweeter than words can say. Mind and write if you don’t come, for I get no sleep waiting.”

~dialogue gems like “i would have gone through life half-awake if you’d had the decency to leave me alone” and “now we shan’t never be parted”

~the fact that Alec is basically the physical form of everything that Clive lacked (sexuality, trust, devotion)

~that the gays always feel the need to climb through their s/o’s window to make a move

~the fact that Maurice learns that he can have a soft, tender love but also have a sexual love

~the cricket scene

Please watch this movie and support it because it is one of the best movies I’ve ever seen. I thought that since I had never heard of it that it might not be that good but man was I wrong. It made me squeal every five seconds because of how cute it was and I think all of you deserve this kind of satisfaction that other movies might not be able to give you. I promise you’ll (probably) enjoy it just as much as I do.
